This is my son, he and a friend were goofing off with the camera a few weeks ago and I didn't think anything of it other than it's boys being boys.

Last night I see that people are outraged with Rosie O'Donnell for posting a video of her daughter dressed as a soldier. I don't get it? What is the big deal?

I am going to do something dangerous here and ASSUME.

I assume that Rosie is feeling similar to myself, I am against this war, but my boys are into all things military...just like just about every other boy in history who have been exposed to war! I don't like it so all I can do is explain to them what this war is about and let them come to their own conclusions. They are young and don't understand the politics of it, they just think it's "cool". Soldiers are cool and they are our heros. I do agree there, so I will not forbid them to "play soldier". I assume this is exactly why Rosie has soldier stuff at her house too.

Rosie's daughter was doing what millions of little sibs all over the world do, copying their older sibs.

So why the outrage at Rosie being sad over her daughter doing something that she doesn't believe in? They are kids and just doing something they see as "being cool" without understanding the adult issues involved. Is a mother not allowed to think that that is sad?

Let's call a spade a spade here and admit that the only reason that they're pissed off is because they simply don't like Rosie. That's fine, but in my opinion, this OUTRAGE is silly.

QotD: Worst. Hairstyle. Ever.

What was your worst hairstyle decision ever?

Do I really have to pick just one? I am a child of the 80's you know!

Where do I start?

I think my first bad choice was "The DA" when I was in the third grade. I had super long hair up until then but it got stuck in the back wheel of my bike so I decided to get rid of ALL of my hair. I looked like a 50's crooner!

Then of course there was the popular curly hair just in the back look when I was 14. Remember that? My hair is naturally curly, but I thought a perm would give me more uniform curls...bad idea!! It must have been the girls first week because she mostly permed the crown of my head and left it on too long. When I felt my scalp it felt like velcro, what hair was left was so tightly curled...it was tragic! I cut it super short again.

By '86 my hair was long again & I went into my Punk phase. First came the pink streaks, then I decided to let my friend shave the sides and the back. I would pull it up into a ponytail at school to show off my newly shorn scalp, but I knew my Mom would be pissed so I kept it down at home. Too bad I didn't work the possibilty of wind into my calculations. Oh..she WAS super pissed!!

I guess I can say I never went through the really bad 80's hair phase. Don't you know what I mean??

Let's see, what's next....

I guess by the later 80's I was still fighting the curl, but tended to be a little more natural, I'd curl it into big, soft curls. Then came the gotta be straight phase, I still hate whoever came up with that! It would take me 3 hours to straighten out this mop and then as soon as I'd get warm....POOF!!! Sooooo, I decided to go the perm route again, this time straightening rather than curling. Again, another bad idea. The bottom 2" of my hair fell off. Quite frankly I look really bad with straight hair.

After all this and growing out the straight perm, I decided to give it all up and started doing the shake and go, I just let it dry curly and hope for the best. Guess what? Wanna know what my husband said after 10 years of struggling with this mess???? "Hey, I think I like your hair really curly!"

Hmmmmm, could you have clued me in on this info 10 YEARS AGO?????

Do I have room for all the coloring disasters??? There was the eggplant shade, then Lucille Ball orange and the time I thought blondes had more fun......It's a wonder I have a hair left on my head!!!!

Boys Don't Cry

I haven't seen this movie since it came out and it still moves me to think about it. After I saw it, I didn't think of anything else for days.

I personally thought what the character did was wrong, not that she was a transsexual, but her being deceptive about it. This was a classic case of the punishment NOT fitting the crime. I was devastated to see what those guys did to her.

Hilary Swank was phenomenal in this film!

Did I ever tell you about the time I got arrested?

Yup, I really did get arrested.

I was tending bar one night when one of my customers went out to his truck for a pack of smokes. I really hadn't noticed that he had been gone for a while, but I sure noticed him when he walked back in!! He was a bloody, beat up mess! Now, this really was a nice bar, but the location wasn't fabulous. We had a group of teenage boys living out back that were holy terrors and this night, they beat the crap out of my customer, Ron.

Soooo...Ron's girlfriend, my cook, and another female friend decided to go outside so that they could get descriptions of the hoods for the cops. WHAT??!!! They can't go out there! Ron is not a small guy, just the opposite and they beat the tar out of him, two girls were going to be no match for these jerks!

And this is where I come in.

I grabbed the baseball bat from behind the bar and went out after my girlfriends. There was no way I was going to let my friends or myself get beat up! The boys were still out there and my friends were yelling at them, I grabbed my girlfriends and told them to get back in the bar. The cops were on their way, let them deal with it.

The cops came, interviewed everyone and after talking to the boys came back in the bar to arrest me for assault with a weapon!! WHAT!!!????? What assault? Apparently the little peckerwoods decided to tell to cops that I came out swinging!

I got fingerprinted and had my mugshot taken!! Hysterical!!! (if you really knew me you'd understand how funny that really is)

Luckily one of the cops was a customer of mine and on my court date went in to speak to the judge on my behalf. He explained to her that this was NOT my style and after I asked her what she would have done if it were HER girlfriends, the charges were dropped.

My boss had my name inscribed on the bat, I am and will always be "Batgirl" to them!

It's polymer clay. His eyes are garnets and there are a few other gemstones hidden in there as well.

It is a total rip off of another artist's work, Christi Friesen.

She is amazing!

A Weekend In Toronto

We went to Toronto for a hockey game this weekend. It was a long drive, but we had a great time. What a beautiful city! I had never been there and I'd love to go back in the summer to simply sightsee. We went to Wayne Gretzkys for lunch. I really didn't want to go there, but was glad we did, the food was good and it was a pretty cool place. They used skates for the door handles!!

If you knew how dinky our local Arena was, you'd know why we found The Air Canada Centre so impressive! It was a great game, yes we lost, but only in OT.

Confessions of a Hockey fanatic

I did not grow up in a sports house. My Dad wasn't the guy planted in his recliner every Sunday, screaming at the TV. My mistake husband wasn't much of a sports nut, my good husband wasn't when we got married either. He was more of a baseball fan and we liked going to games, they were fun and all but, you know, it's just baseball.

In 2002 he took me to a Hockey game, what was that warm and tingly feeling? My heart beat faster and I found myself sitting on the edge of my seat. YES!!! HOCKEY!!!! I get it now, I know why guys are crazy over their games, I just had to find mine.

Now keep in mind, I am a very non-violent, peace loving woman, I study Buddhism for Pete's sake! But there is a complete metamorphesis when I watch a hockey game. I get super excited, I scream things like REF YOU SUCK!!, You skate like my Aunt Tillie!, Start the bus LOSERS!, I pretty much lose my mind. Ohhh and the fights, I am seriously disappointed if there are no fights, what the hell is that? That's not a game! I want to see these guys beat the crap out of each other! The goons are my favorite players.

the buffalo brawl: ottawa senators vs. buffalo sabres

I had the privilege of being at one of the best Hockey fights, it was just a few weeks ago. The players were fighting, the goalies were fighting, even the coaches were fighting...it was AWESOME!!

We go to games every chance we get and if we can't go we're watching them on TV. I still get that warm and fuzzy feeling...just like my first time.
