What was your worst hairstyle decision ever?
Do I really have to pick just one? I am a child of the 80's you know!
Where do I start?
I think my first bad choice was "The DA" when I was in the third grade. I had super long hair up until then but it got stuck in the back wheel of my bike so I decided to get rid of ALL of my hair. I looked like a 50's crooner!
Then of course there was the popular curly hair just in the back look when I was 14. Remember that? My hair is naturally curly, but I thought a perm would give me more uniform curls...bad idea!! It must have been the girls first week because she mostly permed the crown of my head and left it on too long. When I felt my scalp it felt like velcro, what hair was left was so tightly curled...it was tragic! I cut it super short again.
By '86 my hair was long again & I went into my Punk phase. First came the pink streaks, then I decided to let my friend shave the sides and the back. I would pull it up into a ponytail at school to show off my newly shorn scalp, but I knew my Mom would be pissed so I kept it down at home. Too bad I didn't work the possibilty of wind into my calculations. Oh..she WAS super pissed!!
I guess I can say I never went through the really bad 80's hair phase. Don't you know what I mean??
That family right there probably single-handedly depleted the ozone layer!! LOL!! (I sure hope they don't see this!)
Let's see, what's next....
I guess by the later 80's I was still fighting the curl, but tended to be a little more natural, I'd curl it into big, soft curls. Then came the gotta be straight phase, I still hate whoever came up with that! It would take me 3 hours to straighten out this mop and then as soon as I'd get warm....POOF!!! Sooooo, I decided to go the perm route again, this time straightening rather than curling. Again, another bad idea. The bottom 2" of my hair fell off. Quite frankly I look really bad with straight hair.
After all this and growing out the straight perm, I decided to give it all up and started doing the shake and go, I just let it dry curly and hope for the best. Guess what? Wanna know what my husband said after 10 years of struggling with this mess???? "Hey, I think I like your hair really curly!"
Hmmmmm, could you have clued me in on this info 10 YEARS AGO?????
Do I have room for all the coloring disasters??? There was the eggplant shade, then Lucille Ball orange and the time I thought blondes had more fun......It's a wonder I have a hair left on my head!!!!

Did I ever tell you about the time I got arrested?
Yup, I really did get arrested.
I was tending bar one night when one of my customers went out to his truck for a pack of smokes. I really hadn't noticed that he had been gone for a while, but I sure noticed him when he walked back in!! He was a bloody, beat up mess! Now, this really was a nice bar, but the location wasn't fabulous. We had a group of teenage boys living out back that were holy terrors and this night, they beat the crap out of my customer, Ron.
Soooo...Ron's girlfriend, my cook, and another female friend decided to go outside so that they could get descriptions of the hoods for the cops. WHAT??!!! They can't go out there! Ron is not a small guy, just the opposite and they beat the tar out of him, two girls were going to be no match for these jerks!
And this is where I come in.
I grabbed the baseball bat from behind the bar and went out after my girlfriends. There was no way I was going to let my friends or myself get beat up! The boys were still out there and my friends were yelling at them, I grabbed my girlfriends and told them to get back in the bar. The cops were on their way, let them deal with it.
The cops came, interviewed everyone and after talking to the boys came back in the bar to arrest me for assault with a weapon!! WHAT!!!????? What assault? Apparently the little peckerwoods decided to tell to cops that I came out swinging!
I got fingerprinted and had my mugshot taken!! Hysterical!!! (if you really knew me you'd understand how funny that really is)
Luckily one of the cops was a customer of mine and on my court date went in to speak to the judge on my behalf. He explained to her that this was NOT my style and after I asked her what she would have done if it were HER girlfriends, the charges were dropped.
My boss had my name inscribed on the bat, I am and will always be "Batgirl" to them!
